Frostpunk: The Last Recon, a larp set in the world created by 11 bit studios, is coming soon. We play the game mostly outdoors, on a cold winter weekend. Immersing yourself in a frosty world may seem great, but it's worth preparing for a scenario where the cold really takes away your enjoyment of the game. What can you do to increase your comfort?

A few weeks in advance:

  • Take vitamin D and make sure you eat nutritious meals.
  • Go outside in your costume and take a walk. Check that your shoes don't rub and that your hat keeps you warm. Pay attention to the materials - it's best to wear wool rather than polyester.

Before the larp:

  • Get some thermal underwear and body warmers to stick on your clothes. Foot and hands warmers are also a valuable item. We linked examples from Amazon but it's worth checking your local shops like Action and TEDI.
  • Try to get a good night's sleep a few days before the game.
  • Think about what you’ll do if your boots get wet. A good solution is moisture-absorbing inserts that don’t require electricity.
  • Layers are the basis of a good outfit. They will allow you to easily adjust to the temperature. It is better to have two thinner layers than one thick one.

At the larp:

  • Avoid alcohol, as it only gives the illusion of warmth. In reality, it dilates the blood vessels and causes us to cool down faster.
  • Keep your boots dry. It is best to bring an extra pair and protect leather footwear with polish.
  • Remember to protect your face and hands. Use cream and gloves.
  • Drink warm beverages. They will be available both in-game and off-game.
  • Expect to be hungrier than usual. Temperature and physical activity have an impact on this. Remember that even if your in-game character is starving, you as a player can eat in the off-game zone.
